What a great restaurant to take in all Mexico has to offer! This small but authentic mexican restaurant tops most I have been too!
You would think living in Mexico I would enjoy Mexican cuisine, but I really don’t :-P . Although since eating at Tres Gallos I think I have had a change of heart. It’s a small but flavor packed menu, nothing plain here. We sat outside under all the fruit trees, no need for sweaters they had soft blankets for everyone. Tres Gallos makes their own corn tortillas and arroz con leche which they give you after your meal. The waiter was fun and polite, he even let us open our own bottle of chocolate tequila. If you are looking for a restaurant off the main drag, go up a street just past Desperadoes turn up a block and your there! I would recommend reservations if your party is larger then 4 because it is a small establishment.

Patagonia steak house! Cabo San Lucas

What a great little find, just off the beaten path a couple blocks up from the center of Cabo San Lucas sits Patagonia steak house. We came here a few months ago with friends and have been back several times now! They have a large menu, 13 ounce fillet mignon, ribs, pastas, excellent chimichurri and this great veggie plate served to you’re table with hot coals underneath. Patagonia is an Argentinian steak house, the beef is of the highest quality and is amazingly delicious! The prices are very reasonable as well, I was pleasantly surprised when looking at the menu. A 13 ounce fillet with potatoes will cost you about 250$ pesos. When we got to the keg back home a fillet is 32$, and it’s just as good if not better. Patagonia also has an amazing selection on vino. The staff is wonderful very attentive the always remember you, even on our second time they thanked us for coming back. I would most defiantly recommend trying this steak house.
A couple tips to recommend, bring a jacket or sweater if coming the months of december through April in can be chilly. (it’s a open space with lots of windows). 2) is the steaks are thick so I would get your steak cooked a little more then usual, I like mine mid rare and I ask them to cook it medium it’s perfect!

Italian food in Cabo? Salvatories and La Dolce is where it’s at!

We love food and just because we are in Mexico doesn’t mean we want to eat Mexican food everyday. We want a little verity, upon on of our little outings we asked some friends where we could find some excellent pasta. Our friends at Cabo Blue told us that Salvatories is their favorite place to eat, they even called the owner and told him to save a table for us! When we arrived we were treated to wonderful service and even better food! This restaurant is busy so you may need a reservation even on a Monday! Try the shank and the clam linguini.
La Dolce we discovered by total accident, we were on our way to Salvatories and of course forgot to make a reservation. So we walked around downtown Cabo and found La Dolce! They make the freshest pizza and homemade pasta! The food is fantastic, and again just like most places is Cabo the service is wonderful too. I love the lasagna it’s amazing!
Both of these restaurants are beautiful, it’s just like you stepped into little Italy!

Chill! A frozen yogurt bar with berry good smoothies

The suns rays in Cabo can get pretty intense anytime of year, and if your anything like me you love sweets! Although eating sweets and being seen in a bathing suit is not something I am willing to try. So What if you could have your cake and eat it too? Well you can now, Chill frozen yogurt and smoothie bar located right beside Cabo Blue, they serve up healthy frozen yogurt and great fresh fruit smoothies! Now I feel less guilty about having a treat. Even better Chill frozen yogurt tastes just the same or better then ice cream only with a fraction of the fat and calories. Also yogurt including frozen variety contains vitamins and minerals including calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, selenium and zinc, which are important for the healthy formation of cells, bones, teeth and for the function of the nervous and immune systems. The bacterial cultures found in yogurt are very important in the aid of digestion and have been known to help decrease the symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
Another great thing about yogurt is that the enzymes in it help break down dairy, which allows many people who are lactose intolerant ingest it with few or no ill effects.
So if your in Cabo I strongly suggest stopping by this little gem! If you can’t find it just ask one of the locals at a shop where Cabo Blue is! Maybe I’ll see you there :-)

Santa Maria beach

There is so much to do here in Cabo San Lucas, so many beautiful beaches to check out. This past week Alex and I went with a few friends to Santa Maria beach. It’s a little difficult to find at first, you go towards San Jose and it’s on the right hand side just passed the marked bus stop. Once you get there you will be so glad you found it, the beach is beautiful and best of all it’s not crowded. We picked a spot and laid out our towels and headed to the water, I was surprised that the water was a few degrees warmer then Medano beach. We packed a lunch, sat and drank jamaica juice pronounced (himika) this wonderful juice mad from hibiscus flowers. Our friend Bob brought another friends dog, a chocolate lab named Cabo! That’s another great thing about Santa Maria, your pets are welcome.
We also saw grey whales breaching right in front of us! They were putting on an amazing show! That wasn’t the only show we got, eagle rays were jumping 3 feet out of the water, so many of them jumping up and belly flopping back into the water! I thought it was a once in a life time occurrence, but in Cabo this happens all the time. Santa Maria beach is my new favorite spot!

I feel very safe in Cabo!

We have been to mexico a few times now and Cabo we have decided to live. My friends and some of my family took the news as a surprise! Most of them were so caught up in the media and how bad things are happening. That my be true for some parts of Mexico…. But just like canada, Mexico is a huge country. Most of this violence is taking place in the big city’s of Mexico and along the boarder towns of Mexico and the USA. Know matter where you live I believe you should be responsible for yourself, don’t look for trouble and chances are it won’t find you. Think of it this way… Would you walk down Hastings street in Vancouver at night or let alone during the day? Probably not! So don’t go looking for trouble here and you should be fine.

Cabo San Lucas is a protected city. So many tourists come here and they bring a lot of money, therefore more tourists more police.

Every time Alex and I go out, we see the policia everywhere. Patrolling the marina, driving up and down the strip as well as at night out front of most clubs. We feel extremely safe here.
There also is tons of Americans and Canadians that have made the move down to the beaches of Cabo San Lucas. Some of them have been here for 20+ years and some new just like us! The American and canadaians that have become locals all seem to know each other and look out for one another. There is a great since of community here!

There is even police when your crossing the street on busy nights to make sure you get across safely. Although with that pedestrians don’t have the right of way. There are cross walks, but just be sure to look both ways just like you would back home, you never know if the person driving can see you.
I have been out by myself in Cabo too! I have gone to the store and to Home Depot to go buy paint so I could paint the living room! I felt very safe with the cab driver who took me there. I asked him to wait for me while I shopped, then he brought me right back safe and sound!
Just remember to use your common sense and you will have a fantastic time in Cabo San Lucas!

Grocery shopping in Cabo?

Alright so back home I can go to the store and if I’m craving something, I can find it! But here it’s a bit of a different story… Although it’s great at the same time cause there is so many different things to try and buy! But I know what your thinking, “I like what I like” so where I find it. First things first, Walmart back home may have everything that you need but here it’s lacking. They have a limited selection of imported goods (coffee, cereal, bread, cookies, sour cream, cheese etc.) but they do have a wonderful selection of alcohol! Yes that’s right to all my fellow Canadian friends, Walmart in Mexico sells liquor and lots of it! As well as cigarets! And cheap! I think 26 oz of absolote vodka is 180 peso around 14 bucks! Walmart is lacking on home furnishings as well and toilet paper it’s mostly scented and really rough! Laundry soap is another thing, liquid is what I use and they didn’t have much of anything there. The produce is fair at Walmart but not the greatest. Meats are fair as well. Prices are about 1/3 of what we pay at Walmart in Canada!

Now to get some good meat mega super is a little far, it’s in San Jose. If yout out that way make a stop. Chedraui and Soriana both Are just a few blocks from downtown where all the action is, located where most of the local fish markets are and where most of the locals live. Chedraui is kinda like a Safeway back home, except great prices! Here you will find all your imported items you were missing. All the cheeses, laundry soap and they even have international delight creamers for you coffee! They also have a massive selection of beauty products, all the hair dye, olay face washes, all the stuff you were missing from back home they have mostly all of it! I must say an impressive selection of import deodorant ;-) chedraui also has great clothing and alcohol too and the produce and meat is fantastic and fresh.

If you’re going to be here for a while I suggest to check out chedraui. Soriana is right next door and is like 10 times bigger then walmart It has great selection too! I have not tried the meats there. Oh and the milk here is a little different as well…. Back home I drink 1% and here there isn’t 1% … To confuse you 1% is 2% here and 2% is 3.5% here and so on, the milk is thicker here, but creamy and delish! The margarin is gross here! I think you can buy bacel at chadraui but I could be wrong. Butter is mantequilla in Spanish, margarin is spelled almost the same in Spanish except in Spanish butter has a “Q” in it so look for that and you will be fine. Eggs are great anywhere! The chicken here is amazing too, it’s a different color then you’re used to, because there is no hormones in the chicken here and that’s why it is sooo flavorful!

I hope this helps! I m so happy I have found these places.
Happy shopping!

Riu Santa Fe Cabo

We have stayed at the Riu Santa Fe twice now. Once in august 2009. We were waiting for the keys to our house and decided we should treat ourselves to a night at an all inclusive. This hotel is wonderful! The rooms are clean and very comfortable, the location in seconds to downtown and the beach is unreal! Crystal clear blue water. We are in our late 20′s and the age range was 20-60 a nice range of people. The entertainment at this hotel is great too, they had a Michael Jackson tribut that was amazing! I would defiantly recommend to try the spa out, they treat you like royalty! The treatments they offer range from deep tissue massages to facials and exfoliators! I recommend the body exfoliator, it evens out your tan and makes your skin extremely soft! For 35 $ for 40 min you can’t go wrong! The food is great to there is a huge selection, something for everyone. You must try the ice-cream!

There are 6 pools I think, most of them have swim up bars, they are nice and warm in the cooler months ;-) and they cool them in the hot months.

We are thinking about having out wedding here, they have great packages! All in all this is a great hotel chain. We will go back when we want to have a weekend away to relax, we know we will be taken care of!

Koi Sushi

We went to this great little sushi place in the Walmart plaza in Cabo San Lucas. It looks like it could be a part of a food court, but we had heard so many good things about it we thought we would give it a try! Alex (my boyfriend) doesn’t eat sushi or seafood, so before sitting down we asked the server if they had chicken teriyaki. He said of course! We sat down at one of the only empty tables outside. This place was busy and it wasn’t even lunch or dinner, it was 3:30! The menu had something for everyone, sashimi, all different rolls, tempura, I was in heaven! I hadn’t eaten sushi since I had left Victoria, Canada. This place rivaled many sushi places in Canada that I have tried!

I had this roll I think it was called anikia? Anyway it had this green sauce, with crab, avocado, cucumber, dorado, tuna, wrapped in Japanese rice and around that was this rice paper stuff. It was amazing, the presentation was so cool and it tasted so good. We also had mixed tempura and Alex had the chicken teriyaki. He said it was the best he has ever had the sauce was fantastic. The server was great he spoke perfect English (they all did) perfect if your Spanish isn’t that great. We were also informed that the chiefs from ” Nic San” a very expensive sushi place downtown Cabo, left there and opened up Koi sushi. The prices are 1/3 of what Nic San’s are too! You get the best of both worlds.
Don’t let the food court location deceive you! Try this little gem!
We go here every time we go shopping at Walmart! I look forward to grocery shopping now that we get to eat here first :-)

Cabo Blue Restaurant Review

As frequent customers of Cabo Blue, we thought giving an honest review of the establishment could benefit our readers. Cabo Blue has excellent food at very fair prices. They also have specials every day of the week. The owners, Scott & Amanda are very good people and always make you feel welcome. It doesn’t matter if you spend $2 or $50, they always treat you like family. I think that’s important, because these days too many places only care about making money but at Cabo Blue they truly do care about their customers, and its refreshing to see.

My favorite thing to eat is the BLT Burger. It’s delicious and comes with homemade fresh cut fries! My girlfriend loves the house salad with chicken. It’s amazing how much better food tastes when everything is made from scratch. The portions are very large and the staff is all very friendly. All around, its a great bar/restaurant with some excellent people running it. The location of Cabo Blue is just half a block off the main strip. It’s right by the Marina, just across the street from Lorenzillos. If you need any help finding it just ask somebody as most people know it, and they can point you in the right direction. Thank you – Scott & Amanda for making us feel so welcome in Cabo San Lucas.

And if you’re in the Mood for something different, you can find Chill Frozen Yogurt in the same little plaza. They have the best frozen yogurt in all of Cabo!
